At Isshen Solutions, we believe in open source. Our development and hosting environments are entirely UNIX based, and utilize best of breed open source technology wherever possible. Some of the packages we use are:
- Ansuz: "Ansuz is an open source Content Management System built in Ruby on Rails. It aims for a modular plugin-based design, and should have more features out of the box than any other Rails CMS we’re aware of." Currently both founders of Isshen Solutions are in the core team for Ansuz.
- Ruby: "A dynamic, open source programming language with a focus on simplicity and productivity."
- Ruby on Rails: "RoR is a open-sourced web framework that's optimized for programmer happiness and sustainable productivity"
- Merb: "A ruby web development framework that is ORM-agnostic, JavaScript library agnostic, and template language agnostic, preferring plugins that add in support rather than trying to produce a monolithic core library."
- Gentoo: "A special flavor of Linux that can be automatically optimized and customized for just about any application or need. Extreme performance, configurability and a top-notch user and developer community are all hallmarks of the Gentoo experience."
- OS X: The Apple operating system allows for development of both user interface and server code.
- Xen: "An open source industry standard for virtualization, offers a powerful, efficient, and secure feature set for virtualization of x86, x86_64, IA64, PowerPC, and other CPU architectures."
- Amazon S3: "A simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web."
- Amazon EC2: "A web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers."
